Revised cartoons

Here are a few recent cartoons that I've returned to to revise.

With this one I made the lion's mane stand on end, put the lionnesses paw ovwer her face, and gave the honey badger an open mouth.

With this Gerald the Goat strip, I added a groundline in all the panels.

This wasn't a revision per se, instead I combined two previous cartoons to produce the above.

I want to draw more honey badgers, as I feel they are very character full.

With this one I removed the cat that featured in it originally, and replaced it with 'Claude'. I'm now thinking whether I'll keep the stripes with Claude, and if so, what pattern I'll settle on.

Here's Claude again in a new one. I fancy developing the theme of 'cat versus mouse'. Yes, I know that it's been done so many times before, but it is a classic theme!

Gerald appears in a single-panel cartoon. I've been featuring him in strips for the past couple of months, so I thought it would be interesting to try a few single panels again. I originally thought of the idea without him, but seeing as he likes to eat....who better to add.

The Louisiana Bulldog

The Bulldog is one of the most distinctive of all dog breeds and even more instantly recognisable is the Louisiana bulldog.

Although regular bulldogs know how to swim, they can’t actually swim if they unfortunately end up in water. Bulldog enthusiast and Louisiana resident Herb T Sumptuous had an idea to get around this problem by crossing a regular bulldog with another breed with really long legs, and thus enabling the new dog to wade through the swamps of Louisiana.

Although not bred specifically as a hunting breed, the bulldog is not to be trifled with if it encounters an alligator by chance.

Rumour has it that Herb’s cousin, Dwight G Rightious, has been working on a new breed able to navigate even the deepest of swamps...

 

The Transylvanian Lab Dog

The peak of the Transylvanian Laboratory Hound’s popularity was during the late 19th and early 20th century, when every self-respecting half-baked scientist had one of the dogs beavering away faithfully/loyally in the lab.

Very good at fetch...fetching all sorts of of things: tools, test tubes, spare limbs etc.

 

Although friendly by nature, the Lab Dog's odd appearance doesn't always endear itself to fellow dogs or humans.

A hardy breed, able to put up with the strange working hours, often hostile lab conditions and delusions of grandeur of their owners, the dogs were indispensible to an entire generation of boffins.


Few of the breed survived into the 20th century due to new legislation regarding the creation of life and free energy in private laboratories, which lead to many closing down. Others succumbed tooocasional lab explosions.

Happily, some are still to be found today in research labs and start-ups in California.

Side kicks

This week's assignment is to create a side kick our character.

Today I thought I'd look back over some side kicks from strips I used to read.

First up is Boot, Wellington's dog from the Perishers, of course Boot would regard himself as being the main character with Wellington his side kick.

Next up is Jock and Yorkie, friends to Fred Basset.

And now on Dogbert, who like Boot above would in no way see himself as the secondary character.

More Blanche and the Lion

I've recently been working on a new character - Blanche the lion tamer. Here are a few more pics of her and the as yet unnamed lion. If you have any suggestions for names, then please let me know.
